The owners, Jeremy and Lisa Jeffery, purchased this Greek Revival-style home in Columbus, Ga., for $1.1 million in 2005, according to public records. The couple, who had spent the previous 18 years in Bedford, N.Y., were new to the area, but this 1938 mansion immediately caught their eye, says Mr. Jeffery.

'It's a classic southern mansion, and well built,' says Mr. Jeffery, 62 years old. The couple moved to Georgia after Mr. Jeffery accepted an executive position at insurance company Aflac. 'Structurally the house was in perfect condition,' he said, though the interior needed freshening up. The dining room is shown.

For Mrs. Jeffery, 52 years old, the interior left something to be desired. 'It gave me something to do in a town where I knew no one,' she recalls about the renovation process. She furnished the home with period-relevant décor, she said, to retain the home's southern character.

The home features hard pine flooring on the first floor and oak upstairs, Mrs. Jeffery said. Portraits that adorn the walls in the house were inherited from Mrs. Jeffery's parents, she said. Furnishings are not included in the sale.

A thorough kitchen renovation went 'down to the studs,' Mr. Jeffery says. The majority of work to the home involved the electrical systems and reviving the landscaping on the property, he said, for a total cost of around $1 million.

Part of Mrs. Jeffery's interior work included creating this breakfast area with a built-in banquette. Other additions include a sun room the couple created out of an office in the home, as well as upgrades to a home theater in the lower level.

The 4.3-acre property has been the site of several large gatherings and social events for the couple, including charity events and a debutante ball, according to the listing agent. Mr. Jeffery says they've hosted more than 80 people for a seated dinner on the back porch. The heated saltwater pool is pictured

The roughly 8,400-square-foot home has six bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms. The master bedroom is shown.

One of Mrs. Jeffery's favorite features of the home is actually the his and her bathrooms, she joked. The master bathroom includes a large walk-in closet.

Mr. Jeffery retired from Aflac last June, according to a company spokesperson. He still manages his own private equity ventures, he said. The couple is selling because they're moving to Florida. A guest bedroom is shown.

The home will go to absolute auction, which means there will be no reserve price, on April 16 with Grand Estates Auction Company. The home was last on the market in February for $1.4 million, according to a company spokesperson. 'The house is sort of iconic in the area and I felt like the auction process would give it a more national audience,' Mr. Jeffery said.
