Swiss homeowner Hans-Kurt Lubberstedt purchased this duplex penthouse in Hong Kong's Sheung Wan district in 2008 for 42.5 million Hong Kong dollars (about US$5.5 million). His wife, Xenia, who owns a fashion and styling design house, spent months redesigning the interiors that they share with a maid and their parrot Nika

The HK$3.5 million (about US$450,000) renovation included new wood floors, expanded rooms and new paint. The upper floors are brushed in orange, the lower one in yellow.

Decorated in warm tones, the flat is dotted with furnishings from the family's travels. This red dresser was bought in Switzerland while the wool rug comes from China.

The 1,932-square-foot penthouse occupies the 45th and 46th floors of the CenterStage, a development that has 388 units, a clubhouse, outdoor pool, gym and spa. The building is a five-minute walk from the central business district.

The rose-colored marble staircase that connects the two floors has handcrafted wrought iron railing with handmade glass accents.

Beads collected from the couple's travels throughout Asia make up the curtain that separate the dining area from the living room, which has contemporary Chinese paintings. A small terrace is located off the living room.

The home has two bedrooms. The mirrored wardrobe in the master bedroom was added to give it a more spacious feel. Brass covers were hand-cut to mask the air conditioners.

The ceiling in the guest room is painted with images from Greek and Russian mythology. Ms. Lubberstedt, a native of Ukraine, said the images reflect her heritage.

There are three bathrooms, including a master bathroom that is lined with floor-to-ceiling windows. The metallic curtains were added to allow sunlight into the room without sacrificing privacy.

The kitchen has German appliances and marble countertops

The couple's private rooftop is accessed by a staircase in the living room. It's equipped with speakers that are connected to the audio system in the penthouse. The couple use the space, which has panoramic views of the cityscape and mountains, to eat dinner.

Mr. Lubberstedt, an executive for a U.S.-based software firm, said the couple are selling because they plan to retire in Europe.

The house was listed in February for HK$75 million (US$9.7 million) with Engel & Völkers agent Jack Zhou. The furnishings are negotiable.
