"A lot of it was rebuilt about 15 years ago with old stone," said owner Marilyn Anselm. "But when I took over, it wasn't finished. It didn't have any windows or doors. The floors on the ground floor were dirt floor. It was completely raw, one might say. I was able to knock it about a bit."

"The aim was to keep it looking like an old villa—not to keep it modern," she added. "We bought old terra-cotta, marble.

Every room in the 500-square-foot farmhouse near Monteguidi has "a view," according to Ms. Anselm.

A one-hour drive from the Florence airport, the house has five bedrooms, seven bathrooms and two reception rooms.

The grounds include a swimming pool, olive grove, small vineyard and landscaped gardens, including a lily pond and vegetable garden. There is also an underground cellar, where you can produce your own oil and wine.

The farmhouse is listed with Knight Frank for ¢æ3.5 million ($4.6 million)
