He built this colonial-style beach house, with a white stone and cement exterior, in 2011.
The Smola family use the two-story house as a holiday retreat during the winter, and rent out the rooms other times of the year.
The house spans 7,000 square feet and has eight bedrooms, one of which is used as a storage room, that are tiled in Italian plaster. There are eight bathrooms and an additional maid's room.
The property also holds a garden bungalow with three bedrooms that Mr. Smola rents out.
The tropical garden is dotted with palms and papaya trees. There's a pagoda and views of the mountains.
The living room with teak floors opens onto a wooden deck with expansive views of the Indian Ocean.
Large glass doors were installed throughout to expose the home to the sea breezes and ocean views.
The infinity pool and covered deck are shown here.
The house is 4 miles from Galle, one of Sri Lanka's major cities, and a short walk from the beach. The Smolas are selling the house as Mr. Smola and his wife are getting older and may not visit the house as frequently.
The property has been listed since February with an asking price of $2 million. Ivan Robinson of Lanka Real Estate has the listing.
