The owners, David Snider, 49, and Robin Snider, 52, purchased this property through a trust in the affluent town of Hunting Valley in northeast Ohio for about $1.75 million in 2002, according to public records. Built in 1916, the French Normandy-style home has had significant upgrades installed, Mr. Snider says, including an additional 3,000 square feet

The house, situated on about 12 acres, is now more than 10,000 square feet. The renovations, which took place in 2006, cost more than $2.5 million, Mr. Snider said. There is also a guesthouse connected by a walkway that was added in the early 1970s by a previous owner, he said.

The 'epicenter' of the home, Mr. Snider says, is the kitchen, shown here. 'My wife is a gourmet cook,' he said, and worked in the catering business before they married. The open-floor plan in the kitchen and adjoining great room is especially accommodating considering how often family and friends from nearby Cleveland visit. 'We always have a lot of kids over,' he said.

Ms. Snider was involved in the design of the home, including the updated hardscaping and gardening, Mr. Snider said. The 'doll house'—a large screened playhouse for the couple's four children, who are now grown—is shown at center.

The main home includes six fireplaces while the guesthouse has one. Flooring throughout the home is oak hardwood or travertine marble, Mr. Snider said. The living room is shown.

The original owners of the property were in the shipping business, a previous owner told Mr. Snider.

In the early 1970s, noted architectural firm Greene and Greene built this guesthouse and walkway that connects to the main home, Mr. Snider said. The guesthouse is about 1,800-square-feet and has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, according to the listing agent.

There is been a tradition of passing down the dining room table from owner to owner, Mr. Snider says. He plans to include the table in the sale, along with a number of other personal touches, like a large bell they used for calling the kids to dinner

Mr. Snider is a real-estate investor and developer an office space is pictured. A stairway in the room leads up to an exercise space and a massage area. In the lower level, there is a home theater and wine storage.

The property also includes a pool and pool house, pictured in the background.

The main house includes five bedrooms and six bathrooms, according to the listing agent. French doors lead out to a balcony overlooking the grounds. Part of the perks of owning this large swatch of land, Mr. Snider said, is that further development is prevented on the property, ensuring that their wooded views will be protected.

The master bathroom includes elaborate tile work that Ms. Snider helped design, Mr. Snider said. Part of their extensive renovation included replacing all the plumbing in the bathrooms and adding a new wing that houses three bedrooms and a four-car garage, he said.

Mr. Snider says they're selling the home because the family is moving to California. Ms. Snider is from Santa Barbara, Calif., and three of the couple's children are already in college. 'We always thought we'd eventually move back to California,' he said, though he's sad to leave this home behind. A study room for the couple's children is pictured.

The home was listed in August 2012 for just under $3 million with Steve Toth of Keller Williams Realty in the Greater Cleveland office.
