"This is southern France at its very best," says Roger Beach, owner of this house about an hour from St.-Tropez

The estate, which the owner believes dates back to Napoleonic times, is a five-minute drive from the town of Lorgues. "Lorgues provides us with everything that we need in terms of markets, suppliers, and all the good things in life," Mr. Beach says. "We can also go to Nice and Monaco, which makes a very pleasant combination."

This 6,243 square-foot house is spread across three floors. Among the outbuildings is a two-bedroom caretaker's cottage. The 23-acre grounds include formal gardens, olive groves, a vineyard and a swimming pool.

There are four reception rooms, including a drawing room with a beamed ceiling and a library

In the main house there are seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms

"Across from our veranda we have unencumbered views which stretch the whole way down to the coast," Mr. Beach says. "We don't see the sea because there's a mountain range in between. You're hard pushed to see a house for as far as you look." The house is listed with Knight Frank at ¢æ4.95 million ($6.4 million).
