Built in 1902 for a master at Marlborough College, the property was later home to several prominent local figures, including Mr. Richards and a former governor of the Bank of England. Known as Clements Meadow, the 5,182-square-foot house features 1.22 acres of landscaped gardens.

"The architecture is splendid," says owner Steve Orchard, former director of Classic FM. "It is a very fine house...very lovely to look at and very well built. It looks a bit like an Arts and Crafts-style house."

Mr. Orchard and his family have lived in the house for 18 years and over that time have made renovations. "The wood had been varnished over the years and it was very dark," he explains, "so we spent a number of years lightening the place up to create bigger spaces by having more light."

"We got craftsmen to really take the wood back to its original honey color and that made a vast difference in terms of the welcome feeling of the house," says Mr. Orchard.

The home has five bedrooms, three bathrooms and a dressing room.

The house, which comes with its own gym and an indoor pool and spa, was previously listed with Carter Jonas for £2.5 million ($3.8 million). It is now under offer.
