British owners Paul Burton and his partner Alison Fudge are retired marketing professionals who sold their company in Melbourne and moved to Palmers Island, a rural area in New South Wales, Australia, because of the warmer weather. They bought this 6.2 acre plot on the banks of a river in 2005 and spent a year building the house.

The two-story house, which Mr. Burton calls his 'dream home,' offers a panoramic view of the Clarence River.

Mr. Burton is a big fan of the lighting system, which changes according to the time of day and the mood of the owners. The lights are adjusted by remote control.

The entire lower level opens up to the outside. The columns are made of timber recycled from an old bridge, while the floorboards are made of 90-year old red mahogany from a cottage in Brisbane. Mr. Burton said using old materials gives the modern-style house a sense of warmth.

This 7,100-square-foot house comes with four bedrooms and two bathrooms. The master bedroom is pictured here.

Opening up to the master bedroom is this bathroom with river views that can be enjoyed while taking a bath or shower, Mr. Burton said.

The owners designed this small corner of the living room as a cozy TV lounge with a U-shaped sofa. The upper-level living room opens up to expansive decks that give an elevated view of the surrounding pastures and mountains.

The open-plan kitchen comes with a granite island countertop and aluminum appliances.

One of the four bedrooms was converted into a study with vintage accents such as the black-and-white family photos, an antique chest and a retro sofa.

The infinity-edge swimming pool next to the house has a sweeping view of the river. The pool is 26 feet long.

There is a garage for two cars and additional parking spaces outside.

A second building across the driveway houses a workshop and a rustic studio with a wood-burning stove. The owners designed this secluded living space with a rippled tin ceiling and planked walls. They use this area for relaxing and reading.

The enclosed courtyard beside the house comes with a pizza oven and a barbecue. The owners use it for dining and entertaining guests.

The owners have a pontoon and a jet boat, which can be negotiated with the purchase of the house. The owners have used the boats to travel to nearby islands, beaches and towns. The closest is Yamba, a town 5 miles away.

Mr. Burton said they are selling the house because they want to spend more time with their parents back in the U.K. They also want to do more traveling around Australia. The house has been listed since early May with an asking price of 2.5 million Australian dollars (US$2.4 million). Nicolette van Wijngaarden of Unique Estate has the listing.
