Kristy Carr, an Australian brand manager for a food company, bought this three-story apartment complex in Clear Water Bay, Hong Kong, in the summer of 2011. Working with several contractors, she converted it into a single-family home

Ms. Carr shares the 2,100-square-foot home with her husband and two young children. She declined to disclose the price of acquiring the property, but said that converting it took about two years and cost about 3 million Hong Kong dollars (nearly US$390,000).

Ms. Carr, an interior-design hobbyist who oversaw the refurbishment, said the complex used to have a dingy two-bedroom apartment on each floor. She bought out the owners and removed many of the interior walls to accommodate her vision of an open-plan space.

The communal areas are decorated in light colors such as white and light gray. Most of the artwork scattered throughout the home was created by emerging-artists from Southeast Asia.

Each of the home's three bedrooms, including the top-floor master bedroom pictured here, has a balcony. An additional maid's room is located on the roof.

The master bathroom is wrapped in glass to make the 500-square-foot master bedroom appear larger.

The outdoor area includes a large deck, an infinity pool and tropical plants such as frangipani and hibiscus. 'The whole outside area was inspired by our many trips to Bali,' Ms. Carr said. 'It's big enough for the kids to do things like ride scooters.'

Though the Carrs just finished this 'dream house,' as Ms. Carr calls it, they are moving back to Australia for professional reasons.

The home was listed in June with Danny Wan of Dream House Property for 28 million Hong Kong dollars (US$3.6 million).
