-Sung Sam Park-
Born in Seoul, Korea in 1949, Sung Sam Park's artistic talent was
recognized early and he was teaching art at the local high school
while only a junior in the that school. The former president of
South Korea, Yoo Bo-Sun, personally awarded him many first places
in the national competitions of the Mok-Woo Art Society.
Park is still the youngest person to have ever taken part
in these competitions.
After graduating from Jung Ang University in 1973,
Park traveled to France where he lived and worked
with other young artists. He returned to Korea in 1984
to participate in the national Olympic-sponsored art competition
for the up-coming 1988 Seoul Olympic Games.
Park won the gold medal over a field of more than 2000 participants.
His painting was purchased by the Hundai Corporation
for permanent display at their corporate headquarters.
He then returned to Europe where he lived primarily
in France for the next 14 years. While living in Cypress,
Park was commissioned by the president of Cypress
to paint the First Lady's portrait. This and 5 other of his paintings
are currently on display in the Presidential Palace.
Park created a painting in Greece that was
of Michael Dukakis' birthplace,
and it was later purchased by the then governor
of Massachusetts and presidential hopeful.
Park came to the United States in 1994 where he lives
on the coast of California. His first limited edition works
were published in the USA in 1998.
