Steve Chen은 Paypal mafia중에 손꼽히는 인물입니다. Paypal mafia라고 불리는 Paypal 초기 창업 멤버들은 대다수가 UIUC(University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign)와 Stanford 출신 엔지니어들로 이루어져 있고, Paypal이 Ebay에 인수된 후 일부는 바로 독립해 나간 후, 일부는 Ebay에 남아 있다 경직된 Ebay에 사내문화에 싫증을 내고 퇴사한 후 IT entrepreneur가 되어 기라성같은 IT 기업들을 창업하게 됩니다.
대중적으로 가장 잘 알려진 Paypal mafia 멤버가 Tesla를 창업한 Elon Musk입니다. Paypal mafia가 창업한 기업들이 Tesla, LinkedIn, Palantir Technologies, SpaceX, YouTube, Yelp, Yammer, Reddit,...등등이 있습니다. Steve Chen이 이 Paypal mafia의 가장 대표적인 엔지니어로 다른 Paypal mafia와 마찬가지로 UIUC를 졸업한 엔지니어구요. 정말 어처구니가 없네요.
